Chief Secretary Smt Radha Raturi has instructed to take strict action against vehicles parked illegally on the roadside by running a campaign from Saturday to improve the traffic system in Rishikesh, Lakshmanjhula, Muni ki Reti, Tapovan and Srinagar before the start of Chardham Yatra. This campaign will also be run in Dehradun from Saturday. Taking a meeting on traffic management with Director General of Police, Commissioner Garhwal, DM Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri and Senior Superintendent of Police Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri at the Secretariat on Friday, CS Smt Radha Raturi has directed the District Magistrates to send long-term proposals to the secretariate soon for traffic management and to take short-term corrective steps immediately.
Regarding the problem of illegal parking of vehicles parked on the roadside in Rishikesh and the traffic jam caused by it, the Chief Secretary has directed to make arrangements for parking for tourist vehicles near rafting sites and camping in Rishikesh.She has also given instructions to make parking arrangements on private land. Chief Secretary Smt Raturi has instructed the officials that the tendency of parking vehicles on the roads should not be tolerated under any circumstances and strict and immediate action should be taken against it. Along with this, action will also be taken against such hotel and restaurant owners who are not making proper parking arrangements for their employees and customers and are promoting illegal parking on the roads.
CS has also given instructions to run a campaign against encroachment on the roads. To deal with the problem of traffic jam at various places, Smt Radha Raturi has instructed to immediately send proposals for widening of various narrow roads including Neelkanth to the secretariate . The Chief Secretary said that in view of the convenience of Chardham pilgrims, it is very important to improve traffic management before the Yatra. She has also instructed the District Magistrates to work on the proposals for alternative routes of Chardham Yatra routes.
